Personalised Functional Medicine is the science of individualising nutritional needs based on Nutrigenetics, Nutrigenomics and Epigenetics, with a view to optimise health, vitality and performance.
At Aquatic Natura Medica, we do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach to dietary needs. Instead, every client is as individual as their nutritional needs, and this individuality is based on one’s genetics, physical health, lifestyle and environment.
The key focus in Functional Medicine is to keep the body in balance. Diet and lifestyle are among the factors that most profoundly influence this balance.
Potential biochemical imbalances arising from dietary and lifestyle factors and how these factors could contribute to ill-health can be identified by Functional, Lifestyle and Anti-ageing Medicine. This approach allows the practitioner to work with individuals at varying levels by addressing deficiencies, personalising nutritional needs and supporting the body towards achieving and maintaining optimum health through dietary and lifestyle modifications.
People consult Functional, Lifestyle and Anti-ageing Medicine Practitioners for varying reasons. Some simply want to check if they are on track with their health, others need support with weight management, whilst others may need support with specific health issues. As practitioners, with multi-disciplinary qualifications and experience, we support clients with a wide range of health issues.
What To Expect From Your Consultation
We will make an assessment of general health, family history, current dietary patterns, and lifestyle before a personalised dietary and lifestyle plan is devised. Supplements may be recommended where there is a need. Typically, the consultation process is broken down into three stages.
Stage One: Before The Initial Consultation
After a consultation appointment has been booked, a questionnaire will be sent out to you, which will require you to complete your medical history and 3-day food diary. After completion, the questionnaire will need to be sent back to us at least two days before your appointment. This will give the practitioner an opportunity to build a picture of your health history and consider the best possible ways to help you achieve your health goals. This also facilitates more time for a thorough consultation since some of the information is analysed in advance. It is however essential to fully and accurately complete the questionnaire.
Stage Three: Follow-up Consultations
Follow-up consultation is usually recommended within four to six weeks after the initial consultation. This is aimed at reviewing progress and anything new that may have cropped up. Also, where necessary, the programme could be adapted. The follow-up consultation usually last approximately 45 minutes. Depending on how you progress, further consultations may be required. Most clients require two and three follow-ups over a three months period.
If you would like further information or need to discuss whether nutritional therapy could be suitable for your needs, please feel free to contact us.
Stage Two: The Initial Consultation
The first consultation can last 1.5 hours. During the consultation, your health concerns and goals will be discussed, and a personalised programme will be agreed upon, in line with budget, lifestyle and dietary preferences. The agreed programme will either be posted or email to you within two days.
